San Gimignano

From wherever you come, your eyes meet the soaring towers of San Gimignano.
This wonderful fortified town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site and is popular among tourists from all over the world every year, attracted by the timeless fairy-tale atmosphere of the place.
San Gimignano is famous for its tower-houses that were peculiar to aristocratic families in medieval times, as their realization was complicated and very expensive. Only the first floor was usually inhabited, the ground floor was meant for shops, while the kitchen occupied the top floor for security reasons, because in case of fire it would have been easier to leave the building.
There are currently 13 towers in San Gimignano, although in 1300 it is said they were actually 72.
San Gimignano is also famous for the "Vernaccia", a prized wine DOCG which offers the visitor a gastronomic journey of high quality products, able to conquer any palate.
The surrounding area is full of attractions and tourist destinations such as Siena and Florence which can be visited in a day. Nearby you can also find Volterra with its ancient Etruscan remains.
We will help you choose an accommodation, which best suits your needs to turn a simple vacation into an extraordinary experience.
