Piazzale Degli Eroi is in the Trionfale neighbourhood. It takes its name from the road, Trionfale, through which the triumphant Roman generals entered Rome after their battles. Throughout the Middle Ages, this was the road used by the pilgrims to enter the Eternal City. The church rectory of St. Lazarus is where the pilgrims had to stop before being allowed into the city.
The fountain in Piazzale degli Eroi is the terminal exhibition of the Aqueduct of Peschiera, considered one of the largest aqueducts in Europe.
Do not miss the Trionfale market, considered the first Roman market in Rome: with its 273 benches it is certainly one of the largest in Italy and even in Europe, open Monday to Saturday, 7am to 2pm, except Tuesdays and Fridays until 19.00. There is also the Wholesale Market of flowers and ornamental plants, located in Via Trionfale, open to the public only on Tuesday from 10am to 1pm.
In the area, you will find the Vatican Museums, St. Peter's Square, one of the many public libraries in Rome and Via Cola di Rienzo, the shopping street and many restaurants as La Fiorentina, bakery and restaurant where to have lunch or breakfast and enjoy real Tuscan tradition in the center of Rome.
