Villa Matraia and the historic hamlet Borgo of Matraia are located in the beautiful Tuscan countryside, just on the outskirts of Lucca. They are ideally situated to provide easy access to a considerable range of services (transport, shops) and tourist attractions in the area: including the enchanting medieval walled city of Lucca (15 minutes by car), Pisa Airport (1 hour by train/car), FlorenceAirport (1 hour by car/train), the sandy beaches along the nearby coast of Versilia in just 35 minutes and the beautiful historical cities of Florence in 1 hour and Rome and Milan in about 3 hours.
Due to its strategic position on the peak of a valley, the entire estate offers guests wonderful views over the surrounding hills and valleys of Capannori and Lucca, creating an immediate feeling of space, tranquillity and relaxation….

EXTERNAL DESCRIPTION:
The Villa Matraia and the “Borgo” are surrounded by lovely, well maintained open spaces, similar to those you would find in an estate belonging to a prestigious ancient palazzo or villa. The Estate has a wonderful panoramic outdoor swimming pool and patio area built on a natural terrace on the hillside, and since it faces south, the area is bathed in sunlight all day long.
The Estate has been carefully renovated and restored in keeping with the rustic Tuscan style of that area and has been designed around a small square that leads to all of the apartment buildings – each one uniquely located, designed and furnished. The Villa Matraia, however, is located on one side of the Borgo and is set right in the heart of an ancient and prestigious parkland.
Within the Estate, there are several communal areas including the swimming pool and patio area, the private car park, wooded paths and lanes and a clay tennis court – all available for guest use.
Particularly worth noting is the historic “Belvedere” patio area where guests can enjoy spectacular view of the surrounding valley and where it is also possible to organise romantic outdoor dinners.
The Villa is a unique example of 16th Century architecture and thanks to a very careful restoration over the last few years, the Villa has been restored to its former glory and still retains its original Tuscan character and charm. The Villa’s former annexes have also been converted into several delightful farmhouse style apartments.
Since the Villa is very spacious, the Ground floor where the state rooms are, has been conserved in its original state, complete with all the antique furniture, living room with original wood fireplace and panoramic loggias (covered terraces), all of which is accessible to guests of the Estate.
The first floor of the Villa, however, has been transformed into several very spacious and luxury, panoramic apartments and the upper floors, further 7 beautifully furnished apartments. Furthermore, there is a wonderful Wellness and Spa Centre on the underground level which offers guests a very unique and also relaxing atmosphere and which is open all year round.
INTERNAL DESCRIPTION:
The Villa Matraia has been divided into 7 apartments, each one individually designed and elegantly furnished and equipped with all the modern comforts while retaining their original features for a perfectly relaxing holiday in the wonderful Tuscan countryside.
Located on the 1st floor of the Villa (35 steps) the apartment ”Loft”
is definitely the most attractive in Villa Matraia and if you want to enjoy the simplicity, and at the same time refinement, of modern decor, then this apartment is just right for you. The apartment comprises two levels and can accommodate up to 6 guests with two bedrooms and three bathrooms.
It has a very spacious and well-lit open-plan living area and thanks to the special lighting effects in the apartment, at night, you can achieve an extremely cosy atmosphere- these include low lighting, a lit stairwell (several different coloured LED lights), ground lamps that stand around one metre tall, and spot lights on the ceiling The spacious lounge area is furnished with a leather sofa, placed in the centre of the room along with separate adjustable seats. There is also a marvellous home theatre with elegant and very comfortable sofas, a 50-inch flat screen lcd TV, Dolby surround sound, and satellite. The dining area is dominated by a large 12-seater oak table and a well-equipped and modern kitchen (with large American fridge-freezer) set in stainless steel. An elegant bathroom with shower (which appears to be hidden when in fact it operates from behind the wall) completes the ground floor. Two symmetrical glass and steel staircases at each side of the loft lead to the upper level; the sleeping area. There are two identical large double bedrooms, divided by a romantic Zen garden, both with en-suite bathroom with shower. Both rooms are divided by a glass and wooden partition. The apartment has parquet flooring throughout and wooden beam ceilings.

Amenities:
24h Reception, Fitness and Spa Centre (17 steps to go down from the main Villa which is shared by all guests at the Estate, including the heated swimming pool Jacuzzi and Sauna for up to 3-4 people, Gym relaxation room and various body treatments on request. There is also a red clay tennis court, an outdoor swimming pool, (15mx 7m), car park and extensive parkland all exclusive to guests of the Estate.
Each apartment is equipped with: Flat plasma screen satellite TV, telephone, ADSL Internet Connection, Sofa bed (160 cm). In the kitchen, guests are provided with a complementary welcome basket, fridge, freezer, 4 ring hob with glass ceramic plates, oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine with inbuilt tumble dryer, toaster, electric kettle and hairdryer. All bed and bath linen is provided along with complementary toiletries.
Various extra services are available on request including: horse trekking, vintage car rental and private chefs for special dinners/lunches.
