TESSITORI 18
Via TessitoriTessitori 18 is a delightful one bedroom apartment located in the Oltarno district of Florence, which has been refurbished and furnished with extreme care and particular attention to detail. This apartment rental can sleep up to 4 people.
External Description:
The apartment (with elevator) is located in a beautiful building near Piazza del Carmine on the first floor, and is the result of a careful restoration program of an entire block in one of the most characteristic areas of the city. The building in nineteenth century Florentine style, is a rare beauty, and provides the perfect blend between the fine attention to detail and the most advanced technological inventions and home automation systems. The apartment is located in the traditional Oltrarno district, just a stone’s throw from Piazza del Carmine and the Brancacci Chapel, one of the best examples of fine Renaissance painting. As soon as you exit the building you are right in the heart of the old city with its typical boutique shops, bars, restaurants and museums within easy walking distance.
Internal Description:
The 55 sq. m (592 sq. ft) apartment has 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom and can accommodate up to 4 peopleusing the sofa bed in the living room (160 cm wide). The apartment consists of 1double bedroom, 1 bathroom with shower and a cosy living room with kitchenette complete with all modern appliances. The floors are modern porcelain tiles.
Each floor of the building has a laundry room with a coin-operated washing machine and dryer. The coins can be purchased from a machine on the ground floor. There is also a bicycle available for guests to use which is stored in the underground garage beneath the apartment. The apartment can also be rented out together with Tessitori 19 which is on the same floor as Tessitori 18 and which can also sleep up to 4 people. The property is highly recommended for couples and also for those studying at the Polimoda, Florence's famous fashion school which is close by.
Our Personal Opinion:
Tessitori 18 is a reasonably priced apartment and benefits from a great location near Piazza del Carmine. Well furnished and very modern, this apartment provides the ideal base for someone looking to stay longer than just a week in Florence and who maybe also wishes to be slightly off the main tourist track.

Destinations
The apartment is located on Via Tessitori, a smallish street which forms part of the Oltrarno district in Florence’s historic city. The name “Oltrarno” literally means “beyond the Arno” and this district which stretches along the south bank of the river represents a different facet of Florence to that which is found near the Duomo. The Oltrarno perhaps displays the true character of Florence and in general is slightly quieter, greener and more relaxed than the other districts of Florence. Indeed many tourists tend to choose the Oltrarno for this reason. Traditionally an artisans’ quarter, the Oltrarno still boasts today many lovely antique shops and artisans’ studios (particularly furniture and leather-workers) and Via Maggio remains the focus of Florence’s thriving antiques trade.
Over time the Oltrarno became a rather chic area and many aristocrats chose this neighbourhood to build their villas and palaces, the largest of these being the Pitti Palace, which became the home of the various Grand Dukes. Today this sumptuous palace houses several important museums which rank amongst the best in Florence. Other major sights the Oltrarno has to offer are the Cappella Brancacci with its fabulous frescoes, Piazzale Michelangelo with its breath-taking views over Florence, the magnificent church of San Miniato, (one of the highest points in the city of Florence and also one of the best examples of Romanesque architecture within Tuscany) together with the most famous and oldest bridge in Florence, Ponte Vecchio, home to a glittering array of jewellery shops and goldsmiths.
Extending up the hill from the Pitti Palace are the formal Boboli Gardens, an outdoor museum of garden sculpture that includes Roman antiquities as well as 16th and 17th century works. The Oltrarno is famous for its wine bars such as Olio & Convivium, authentic trattorias serving typical Tuscan cuisine, including Il Santo Bevitore, I 4 Leoni and Il Magazzino, not to mention the wonderful fresh produce market held every morning in Piazza Santo Spirito. For those choosing an apartment in this area the Oltrarno quarter also offers a choice of grocery stores, patisserie, bakeries, gift shops and much more.

Parking
The apartment is located on a street which is on the border of the ZTL zone making it a good place to get to by car. You can park for 2.00 € per hour (or 50€ per month) in Piazza del Cestello. Florence city centre is a ZTL zone which means a “limited traffic zone” and therefore special rules apply to when you can enter this area. This particular apartment is in fact located within the ZTL zone so this means that if you are thinking of coming to Florence by car and wish to drive around and park, then you will need to pay special attention to the road signs, CCTV cameras and access cameras (they will show either a red/green light) in order to avoid receiving fines. Guests who need to travel within the ZTL zone by car to reach their apartment are advised to contact one of the private garages in the centre (the one nearest the apartment you are staying in) and obtain a temporary access permit. Upon arrival at the garage, guests must specify they need access for the ZTL and the garage will then note the vehicle’s number plate and forward it to the appropriate police headquarters.
