Area
The apartment is located just outside the main historical centre of Florence within the area called Porta al Prato. This area of Florence is a 20-30 minute walk or a 5 minute tram or bus journey to the main cultural attractions such as the Uffizi Gallery, the Duomo, the Bargello Museum, Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio. The Porta al Prato area is mainly residential so there is a variety of grocery stores, bakeries, supermarkets, restaurants, bars and cafes. In the area you will also find the Porta al Prato railway station (hourly train links to Empoli), the “Stazione Leopolda”, Florence’s former railway station which has been converted into a vibrant exhibition hall used for events such as craft fairs, television and fashion shows and also cultural and business meetings. The Parco delle Cascine, Florence’s largest public park popular with walkers, joggers, horse riders and families, is just 5 minutes away by foot.

Parking
The Florence city center is a ZTL zone which means a limited traffic zone and therefore special rules apply to entering this area. This particular apartment is not located within the ZTL which is an advantage, meaning that driving to the apartment and parking nearby is fairly easy. Near the apartment you will find adequate street parking, which you will pay for between approximately 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. When seeking street parking please note that you must park in blue lined spots as the white lined ones are for resident permit use only. Parking costs vary within the city with the highest charges being found towards the centre of Florence. If you prefer, you can park in a private garage or choose one of the several underground parking lots.

Reviews

  • 4.4/5 I am here with my fiancee doing a masters and finding a place to stay in italy is a bit hard to do. This is the second time we go through Windows on Italy and are happy yet again. Its a quiet area far enough to be away from tourists but close enough that its not annoying to walk to the center. It has updated conveniences like a nice TV, decent internet connection, a good sized kitchen, washing machine, dish washer, and aC! (i know its weird to be excited about aC but in italy a well working aC is something of a rarity. The one thing is that the shower is a bit small (i am 5'7" about 165 lbs and i bump my elbows on stuff sometimes). Service is great (in terms of calling windows if theres a problem and time to fix it. Italy is a bit pricey (you should expect this) and like any where land lords like to try and charge you extra for this and that (not to mention i've had friends staying in Florence that have had land lords walk in out of nowhere and start messing with their stuff and even yelling at them for the mess). With Windows you pay a little more but you get the place hassle free, no crazy land lords, and responsive service if you need it. I know you're gonna come to italy and think, 'i wanna stay in an old building and really catch the flavor of the culture'...yeah, for 2-3 days maybe (i bet you complain about no aC first then outlets then the single burner propane cooktop and then most of all no matter how "cultured and worldly tolerant" you think you are (i grew up overseas and travelled a lot), you'll complain about how nobody speaks english. Go through Windows and save yourself the hassle they all speak fluent english, french, spanish, and others im sure, and they are very friendly and willing to help when ever you call.
  • 4.4/5 Congratulations - this is the 2nd rental with Windows on Italy - an excellent well managed, well presented organisation. We will be back
