External Description:
Located on the ground floor inside the "Orangerie" on the northern border of the garden of Florence’s largest Baroque palazzo. The land was bought in 1579 by Jacopo Salviati who created a loggia and a garden rich in rare, fragrant flowers and works of art. It soon became a famous Florentine palace of great prestige. Many significant changes have been done over the years on the Salviati’s garden. Much work was carried out on the Limonaia, particularly from January 1706 on, when the grandiose palazzo was finished. Bartolomeo Nencioni, a plumber from Pratolino, was the executor of the main works. He brought in stones and sand from the Arno, quarry stones and even sponges and he used up an incredible amount of lampblack, nails, soap and chalk. The works continued until the end of 1708 and in the meanwhile the grotto and the surroundings of the building enclosing Salviati’s “secret garden” were turned into an aviary accessed by the grotto.

Florence city centre is a ZTL zone which means a “limited traffic zone” and therefore special rules apply to when you can enter this area. This particular apartment is in fact located within the ZTL zone so this means that if you are thinking of coming to Florence by car and wish to drive around and park, then you will need to pay special attention to the road signs, CCTV cameras and access cameras (they will show either a red/green light) in order to avoid receiving fines. Guests who need to travel within the ZTL zone by car to reach their apartment are advised to contact one of the private garages in the centre (the one nearest the apartment you are staying in) and obtain a temporary access permit. Upon arrival at the garage, guests must specify they need access for the ZTL and the garage will then note the vehicle’s number plate and forward it to the appropriate police headquarters.
