This precious two bedroom apartment (85 sq.mt) is on the third floor, with elevator from the mezzanine, in Palazzo Banchi. Located in the very heart of Bologna city centre, on the eastern side of Piazza Maggiore, it is placed right beside San Petronio Basilica and is named after the Medieval bank shops. The building dates back to 1412, whist the façade and the ‘portico’ were finished in 1568; in 2010 Palazzo Banchi was fully renovated, and it has been newly furnished in August 2014.

This comfortable apartment gives the unforgettable emotion to live at the very heart of Bologna, in the famous Piazza Maggiore or Piazza Grande, as the well-known singer Lucio Dalla used to call it.
The guests can enter the apartment either from the staircase or the elevator; the many windows offer breathtaking views of Piazza Maggiore, and all the rooms have precious oak parquet flooring. The apartment has high-end finishes, such as air conditioning, independent heating, and sound-proofed, insulated windows and doors. The furniture is completed by some refined pieces of modern art and lithographs of famous Italian artists, that bestow an elegant, refined atmosphere to the ambience.

In the entrance hall you find the laundry, whilst on the right there is the day area, a big and functional space with two single sofa beds, some comfortable poufs, a table seating up to 6 people and a flat screen 32” TV.
The kitchen, separated from the living room by a wall, is equipped with electric oven and dishwasher, and it comes with a small balcony with views of Piazza Maggiore, to be accessed via some steps.

The night area is composed of two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom overlooks Piazza Maggiore with the windows perfectly blending with the XIX-century façade, and it is furnished with a big wardrobe –located in the anteroom- a pouf, a bookcase and a single bed with an extra roll-out bed (on request they can be combined into a double bed). The ensuite bathroom is covered with bright coloured tiles and has tub.
The guest bedroom is very suggestive and backs onto the quiet inner courtyard from which you enjoy ample views of the copper dome of Santa Maria della Vita sanctuary; it is furnished with a double bed (made of two single beds), a closet and a pouf. The second bathroom, with mosaic tiles, is fitted with a shower stall.

Area
The building is located right in Bologna city centre: Piazza Maggiore is the city’s main square and is surrounded by some of its most precious buildings. The oldest one is Palazzo Podestà, dating back to 1200 and dominated by the Arengo Tower; Palazzo Re Enzo, famous for its cross vaults, is right at the back.
Opposite Palazzo dei Banchi you find Palazzo d'Accursio, a monumental architectonical complex dating back to the XIV century home to Bologna town hall. On the fourth side of the square there is San Petronio Basilica, a brilliant example of Italian gothic, started at the end of the XIV century and never completed. Palazzo Banchi is connected to the most important ‘portico’ in Italy – known as Pavaglione– developing from Piazza Maggiore to Palazzo dell'Archiginnasio, that first hosted Bologna university.
Nowadays the university is located at approx. 5 minutes on foot from the building, in via Zamboni; in the vicinity you also find the Teatro Comunale, largely renowned for the opera season.

The most important historic sights of Bologna are just minutes away, such as Piazza Santo Stefano (with seven churches built one into the other and the Corte Isolani) and the Two Towers (Torre degli Asinelli and Torre della Garisenda). The ‘portico’ of Palazzo dei Banchi is one of the fourth sides of the ‘Quadrilatero’: a complex of pedestrian streets filled with mouthwatering shops offering the best products of the area (hand-made pasta, sausages, wine) and fresh groceries.
And if you miss shopping, enjoy a spree around via Indipendenza, the boutiques of Galleria Cavour and the refined shops of via Farini and via d'Azeglio.

The Bologna city center (Walls perimeter, Via Irnerio, ViaMille, Via Don Minzoni) is a ZTL zone which means a “limited traffic zone” and therefore there are special rules.
This particular apartment is located within the ZTL zone.
The access is limited everyday from 7am to 8pm. You can buy an access permit (duration: 1 day or 4 days) at the Tper offices (via Marconi 4 or at the service/bus station).
For every solar month, it is possible to use for the same vehicle only 3 daily tickets or only 1 four-day ticket.
Anyway, this permit does not allow you to enter specific areas inside the city center (pedestrian areas, university areas, via Indipendenza, Via Ugo Bassi and via Rizzoli).
