Area:
The apartment is located within the Duomo district in Florence’s historic city centre. The Duomo area constitutes the very heart of Florence and the area takes its name from Brunelleschi’s magnificent dome on the wonderful Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral. The Duomo neighbourhood offers an array of beautiful historical buildings and superb piazzas including the Mercato di San Lorenzo, the Piazza del Duomo and Piazza della Repubblica, famous for its attractive cafes, patisserie shops, live music, street performers, and caricature artists. Furthermore, the area is surrounded by the city’s main cultural attractions, notably Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio, the Bargello Palace, and Casa Buonarroti, the former home of Michelangelo, not to mention the Uffizi Gallery and the museum dedicated to the city’s cathedral “Museo dell'Opera del Duomo.” The area also has much to offer in terms of fine dining and exclusive boutique shopping. The top Italian fashion houses are located along Via Tornabuoni, Via Calzaiuoli, and Via del Corso and include the famous names of Salvatore Ferragamo, Armani, Versace, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Tiffany & Co. and many more. For those choosing an apartment in this area, the Duomo quarter also offers several delicatessens otherwise known as “alimentari,” supermarkets, laundromats, and gift shops as well as being adequately served by local public transportation.

Parking:
The Florence city centre is a ZTL zone which means a “limited traffic zone” and therefore special rules apply to when you can enter this area. This particular apartment is in fact located within the ZTL zone so this means that if you are thinking of coming to Florence by car and wish to drive around and park, then you will need to pay special attention to the road signs, CCTV cameras and access cameras (they will show either a red /green light) in order to avoid receiving fines. Guests who need to travel within the ZTL zone by car to reach their apartment are advised to contact one of the private garages in the centre (the one nearest the apartment you are staying in) and obtain a temporary access permit. Upon arrival at the garage, guests must specify their need for access in the ZTL and the garage will then note the vehicle’s number plate and forward it to the appropriate police headquarters.

This property for rent is not a hotel, agritourism, B&B or similar, and therefore by law, extra services similar to those you may find in these types of accommodations, such as a reception, concierge or security, receiving mail, provision of meals and drinks, cleaning and change of linen during your stay, and amenity kits with soaps etc. are strictly prohibited.

Reviews

  • 4.3/5 Great experience! Thais is very easy to work with -- great communication, prompt responses, and answers questions quickly and thoroughly. She worked to accommodate our needs and help us find a place that would work well for our trip. This is a really lovely apartment. I expected "cozy" to mean small but in fact this apartment was very comfortable and spacious. The apartment is basically right on Piazza Duomo, one of my favorite places in Florence, in the bustling heart of the city. I would happily stay in this location again.
  • 4.4/5 This apartment was amazing! Spacious, comfortable, very livable. The refrigerator was a little funky: it did not work very well, and was unstable. The living room (and the view therefrom) was fantastic! Being so close to the Duomo was a fabulous experience. It would have been nice to have a little information on the workings of the apartment (e.g., the refrigerator; we never managed to open the freezer section). The advice we were given to call a taxi ("and it would arrive in 5 minutes") on our day of departure, was inaccurate: first, the taxi company said they could not come to the apartment because it was in a pedestrian area; we would have to go to the taxi stand. When we called from the taxi stand, one taxi company told us there were two taxi stands near the Duomo, and the other told us there was only one. Several calls ended with us being hung up on. One taxi company said "we have no taxis, call later (click)." Finally out of nowhere a taxi arrived (from which company I have no idea). We negotiated with him to take three of us to two different places (train station and airport). Next time we're in Florence, we'll know better about the taxis, but it would have been helpful to know this in advance, since we were running out of time by the time a taxi actually arrived. Other than that, it was a fantastic stay, and we really appreciated the elevator in the building, as we had spent a week in Venice shlepping ourselves and our baggage up three flights of stairs.
